Just over 12 months after his unexpected return as coach of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane is at the brink of resignation according to El Pais journalist Diego Torres.
Torres has strong links with Real Madrid and he is also close to Zidane himself.
According to Torres the former France playmaker has been hugely disappointed by the club’s failure to land Manchester United’s Paul Pogba this summer, and he has made his feelings known to Real’s President Florentino Pérez.
Zidane feels betrayed by Florentino Perez who promised to bring in Pogba this summer. He is said to be very angry with the Real President.
The failure to sell the undesired and want-away Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez has further added to the French tacticians frustrations.
He does not believe his team is good enough to meet the objectives set at the beginning of the season.
Zidane’s decision to come back to the Real Madrid dugout after resigning on the back of resounding success, that is, three consecutive UEFA Champions League title wins, was motivated by a promise that he will have total control over who to bring in and who leaves the team.
That has not quite been the case and Zidane feels betrayed and there is also an element of lack of trust in his working relationship with Mr Perez right now.
Speaking to the Independent, Diego Torres said “not signing Pogba has pushed Zidane to the brink of resigning.”
It will be a big blow to the 33 times La Liga and 13 times UEFA Champions League winners if the Frenchman walks-away.
