YOSA of Bamenda are the second best scorers in the Cameroon Elite One championship with 32 goals scored so far.
24 games into the season, the Northwest outfit is experiencing a situation they have missed in the past three seasons as only Cotonsport of Garoua with 33 goals scored are better than them in that aspect of the game.
Tongua Armel Emmanuel Regis and his mates have succeeded to make the club’s goalscoring statistics better,a situation which the club struggled to address on numerous occasions under Ndoumbe Bosso.
The club averages over a goal per game. The likes Ngong Neville, Tengemo Emmanuel and Abanke Eric have all contributed to this improvement with their quota of goals.
20-year-old Tongua Armel Emmanuel Regis is one of many strangers to the championship who have become real deal thanks to the gaffer.
The lad is in his debut campaign in the division but he has broke Tamo Giresse Tinwo’s three years old record of a maximum of seven league goals in a season set in 2017. Tongua has registered nine goals this campaign.
Because goals win a football game, management of the club, supporters and other stakeholders will certainly be happy. Unfortunately, the same feeling is not created in any of these camps when it comes to the club’s defensive records.
YOSA’s backline has been shaky all-season forcing coach Martin Nkabyo to use three keepers and alternate his back four on multiple occasions as he continues to look for the right options.
The club has conceded 30 goals. This puts their defense amongst the most porous in the championship as they are only better than Eding Sport and Dragon Yaounde who have conceded 35 and 36 goals respectively.
Strange enough, in the seasons gone by, the club had very good defensive records and kept 19 clean sheets in just the 2018 season for example.
It is true the entire generation of experienced players the club once had are all gone.
This season, they have struggled to have a run of games without conceding.
With 10 games left, YOSA is on the 8th spot with 33 points.
The gaffer has the mandate to keep trying options until he finally finds a way of sealing the backline and keep scoring goals.
As fans keep hoping it gets better at the back, this reporter hopes they can appreciate the gaffer’s good job done so far with a very young squad.
