Yong sports academy and PWD of Bamenda will clash in a North West regional Derby, as they sharpen their skills ahead of the new football season.
According to a note from PWD’S communication department, the Abakwa boys will take on cross town rivals Yong Sport Academy on Saturday 19 January, at the Big Mankon Catholic School Field in a pre-season friendly, schedule to kick off as from 3 pm.
The note also indicates that the return leg will be played on Wednesday 23 January at 9 am at the Yosa Centre Mile six Nkwen.
Saturday’s game will be the second meeting between the two sides, since PWD got promotion back to the elite one championship. On Friday November 30, 2018, the two sides met in a game the ended goalless.
Joined on telephone, PWD’s lead trainer, Jean Baptiste Toguem, told Kick442.Com that the friendly against YOSA, a team he considers as one of elite one’s giants, will help his boys know what awaits them when the league kicks off. He added that more friendly games are previewed in the days ahead, with the probability of playing any of Stade Renard, Feutcheu or Unisport, before the start of the league.
YOSA and PWD have been drawn in separate pools, according to the leagues new format, thereby preventing the much awaited North West regional Derby. PWD is lodged in pool A, while YOSA is in Pool B.

PWD dramatically survived relegation in the 2016_2017 season, but made an historic comeback to the elite one championship, after finishing second in the elite two championship last season, with 55 points in 28 games.

YOSA on their part had a season to forget last term, finishing 6th with 47 points, in a season were they recorded 17 draws, seven defeats and just ten wins, boasting the best defense with only 15 goals, conceded, but also the second worst attack, with 20 goals scored (Only YAFOOT, with 17 goals, scored lesser goals than YOSA), and consequently misses out on a continental spot.
