After the conclusion of week six in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, Osun Babes’ Yemisi Samuel and Edo Queens’ Elizabeth Zirike with four goals have joined FC Robo Queens’ Monday Gift on four goals as the joint leading goal-scorers in the league.
Yemisi Samuel (Osun Babes) – 4 Goals
The Nigerian Under-17 forward is the Osogbo based side’s leader upfront as she has contributed four goals for Osun Babes in six games.
She scored the winning goal as Osun Babes defeated Ibom Angels 0-1 away in their league opener.
Samuel also scored two goals when Osun Babes comfortably dispatched Pelican Stars 3-0 before her recent goal against Rivers Angels during their week six defeat.
Elizabeth Zirike (Edo Queens) – 4 Goals
Zirike is showing league followers that her goals have not dried off with four goals this season. Her first goal came in the course of Edo Queens’ 1-1 draw with Rivers Angels in week three. She scored her second goal during her club’s 1-0 win over Nasarawa Amazons in week five before her brace during her side’s 3-2 defeat to Bayelsa Queens.
Monday Gift (FC Robo Queens) – 4 Goals
Busy with the Super Falcons at the Turkish Women’s Cup, Monday Gift initially occupied the sole position as the league-leading goal scorer before the resurgence of Yemisi Samuel and Elizabeth Zirike.
She is the only player to score a hat-trick in the league this season which she achieved against Osun Babes. Gift also scored a goal in the course of FC Robo Queens’ 5-1 victory over Pelican Stars.
The experience gathered from the Super Falcons can spur her toward more goals when she returns from Turkey.
The trio of Yemisi Samuel, Elizabeth Zirike, and Monday Gift should be worried as four players with three goals lie in wait behind them.
Odubanjo Dominance (Delta Queens), Seun Fakunle (Sunshine Queens), Joy Jerry (Bayelsa Queens), and Charity Reuben (Bayelsa Queens) have all score three goals and are also in contention for the top goal scorer’s prize.
It’s early days with six out of 26 games played, 2021 NWFL Premiership is sure to bring more dramatic and exciting scenes in the days ahead.
