Quadri Aruna’s remarkable run at the 2021 World Table Tennis Championships ended Saturday night after succumbing to a 4-2 defeat in the hands of Sweden’s Truls Moregard in the quarter finals.
The Africa number one who had made history becoming the first Nigerian and African to reach the last 16 and quarterfinals of the competition couldn’t stand the fire power of the world number 77th table tennis player who took the first two sets even Aruna pushed him in the first round.
He came back to take the third set, but Moregard kept his place taking the third set to further consolidate his lead. A push in the fourth set for Quadri gave him the win in that set and a lifeline to restore parity.
But the teenager kept his cool to wrap up proceedings in the last set and take the tie 4-2
4-2 (11-13, 11-8, 2-11, 4-11, 14-12, 7-11) to p
reach the semi finals with an assurance of a medal.
