Africa got to a good start at the World Athletics Relays that started today in Silesia, Poland as South Africa teams and Ghana team were on sung in their respective events.
South Africa men’s 4x400m team qualified for Tokyo and the finals on Sunday after they finished second in the second heat.
Belgium spurred by Kevin Borlée who ran a great final leg finished ahead of the African team.
Team Botswana won heat 3 of the men’s 4x400m Relays first round in 3:04:03 and also qualified for the final at Silesia.
South Africa and Botswana will participate at the final with Netherlands who topped the qualifiers, Japan, Belgium, Botswana, Colombia, France and Italy.
Ghana also put Africa on the map after finishing second in Heat 1 at the World relays in a time of 38.79s to make the Olympic games. This is the first time since 2004, that Ghana will be making the Olympics in the M4x100m.
South Africa’s men’s 4x100m team also qualified for the final tomorrow at Silesia after coming second with a time of 38.49s in their heat.
Ghana and South Africa are joined by Italy who lead the qualifiers in 38.44s, Brazil, Germany, Netherlands, Japan and Denmark, who edge Ukraine by 0.001 to take the eighth qualifying place.
