The European football governing body UEFA, has meted out sanctions to Italian club SS Lazio of Rome for the racist chants from a section of their supporters, in their UEFA Europa League game against French club, Rennes.

As published on UEFA’s official website, the sanction orders Lazio to partially close down their Stadio Olimpico in Rome for their next UEFA Europa League game.

In effect, four of the stands in the stadium have to be closed down.

Further sanctions have been lined up, if there is a repeat of such behavior from their supporters within the next one year.

They will be forced to play their games behind closed doors.

They were also handed a financial penalty of €20,000.

It should be pointed out that, supporters of Lazio are amongst the most racist in Italy.
