Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has signed for Indian Super League side NorthEast United on a free transfer after leaving Kayserispor in Turkey.

He will travel to Guwahati this weekend to start another chapter in his career after previously playing for nine clubs across three continents and he says he is looking forward to the new challenge.

I am extremely excited to start this new chapter in my career,” the 33-year-old said.
“I have heard great things about NorthEast United FC and the Indian Super League and I am thrilled to be a part of it for the upcoming season.

“I am confident that we can better the wonderful season the club had last year.”

He moves to India with a massive reputation at international level and during spells at clubs around the world particularly in the United Arab Emirates.

Gyan is Ghana’s record international goal scorer with 51 goals in 107 caps and the leading African scorer at the FIFA World Cup.

We are thrilled to have a player of Gyan’s calibre and experience join our squad,” NorthEast Executive DirectorPriya Runchal said.

The five year old club’s highest finish in the Indian Super League was a fourth place finish last season.

Former PSG and Supers Eagles of Nigeria forward Bartholomew Ogbeche, was NorthEast’s top scorer from last season with 12 goals, before his move to their rivals the Kerala Blasters, Gyan will be expected to match or even better the Nigerian’s performances.
