Three Cameroonian female footballers have made it to the top 10 of the Africa Women’s Power Rankings. Release by ESPN, the list features Nchout Njoya Ajara being placed in third, Marie-Aurelle Awona in fifth and Easter Mayi Kith in eight position for the month of December.
Ajara’s third position in December represents a slide in position having topped the November Power Rankings by ESPN. The slide cannot be looked at due to a poor performance from the Indomitable Lioness player but due to the outstanding performance from Oshoala and Kgatlana for their various clubs.
It has been a productive 2020 for Njoya Ajara after doing the double for her club Valeranga. The team succeeded in winning the Norwegian Toppserien title for the second year. In 18 matches played in the championship, Ajara’s Valerenga got 38 points with 11 wins, 5 draws, and 2 defeats. In all competitions this year, Nchout Njoya Ajara succeeded in scoring 14 goals.
The team equally won the League cup. Nchout Ajara scored the opening goal for her side in extra time as Valeranga went on to win LSK Kvinner by 2 goals to 0. The second goal for Valeranga was scored by Marie Markussen.
Ajara was recently nominated in the women team of the year 2020 under CAF released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, IFFHS.
Like Ajara, Marie Awona is also having a brilliant season with her Club Reims in France. Reims started the year with a draw with Dijon but then went on to loss 1-0 against Guingamp, with Marie playing the full minutes of both games.
For 2020/2021 Division 1 Feminine, 27-year-old Marie Awona has played more than 6 matches thus far. She was also part of the 2019 FIFA World Cup and made her World cup debut for Cameroon in a 2-1 victory against Switzerland.
Reims is placed 12 in the League table so far, 5 points adrift of the relegation zone. The team will 16 January face Olympique Lyon looking to give some distances from the relegation zone.
Easther Mayi Kith also plays alongside her friend Marie Awona at Reims. She was with Awona as Reims drew with Dijon but missed the loss to Guingamp.
The 23-year-old who was born in Canada but plays for the Cameroonian national team has featured in 9 matches for Reims this year. Certainly there is more to come from this prolific lady.
The Power Ranking for December is led by Asisat Oshoala (FC Barcelona) followed by Thembi Kgatlana (Eibar).
