Host Egypt couldn’t contain the might of defending champions Mali as it lost her first game of the 2020 Under 18 Women’s African Basketball Championship at the Cairo Stadium.
Mali showed it might and held on to it first half lead of 18 points margin of 31-13 to win the tournament opener.
Alima Kouyate’s fine display in scoring 11 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists ensured the seven times winners ran over Egypt 36-64 at the end.
Due to withdrawals from some countries this year’s tournament will be played by three countries- Mali, Egypt and Senegal in round rubbing situation which we see the winners qualify for the FIBA Under -19 Championship for women.
Today’s fixtures will see Senegal go head to head with Mali.
