The Serengeti boys of Tanzania survived early scares in the first 10 minutes of their last group game in the 2019 Under 17 AFCON by beating Angola in a very tough group A fixture at the National Stadium in Dar Es Salaam on Saturday.
A 12 minute header from center back Omary Omary put the Serengeti boys 1 nil up after 12 Minutes and against the rules of play.
5 minutes later in a mirror reflection of the kind of action that gave Tanzania the lead Angola’s center back Telson Francisco Tome rose highest in the box to make it 1 all.
Forward Kevin Pius John thought he had scored in the 23rd minutes after he put the ball in the back of the net after a streak of well-worked passes but unfortunately for him he was in an offside position when he connected with the ball.
Tanzania kept on pushing towards the Angola box showing signs of their potentials and in the 27th minutes captain Abraham Morice nearly played in John Kevin but Geovanni Carvalho read the movement of the ball quicker and came off his goal cage to intervene and get the ball for Angola. John Kevin will try a long range shot from 37 Meters out in the 28th minutes but Goalkeeper Carvalho was equal to it.
The first yellow of the game was displayed by referee Abdulwahid Huraywidah in the 35th minute when Osvaldo Pedro tested the pace of full back Omary Omary forcing Omary to bring him down the resulting free kick from Omary was inches away from being a goal before Shabani Hassan in his second game for Tanzania intervened at the expense of corner.
Zito Andre nearly beat Shabbani from 35 yards out but his short was pushed away at the expense of a corner.
The corner got wasted but a minute later Osvaldo Pedro was brought down in the box by defender Omary Omary who was having a strange afternoon. The resulting penalty was converted by Osvaldo Pedro to put Angola in front after 41 minutes.
Agiri Ngoda will benefit from space at the Angola back line to score the second goal of the afternoon for the Serengeti boys as the contest remained open when the Referee sent both teams to the changing Room for the first half break.
In the early minutes of the second segment John Kelvin brought the best out of Goalkeeper Carvalho with a super shot from within the box the resulting corner instead left Tanzania attacking through a counter forcing Ladaki Chasambi to take 1 for the team with a foul from outside the box the earned him yellow card.
Amiri Djeru was also booked in the 54 th minutes. Davide Nzanza made it 3 for Angola in the 68th minutes before Osvaldo Pedro doubled his tally 2 minutes later to put Angola on a comfortable 4-2 lead before picking a yellow 2 minutes later.
Angola kept it tight in the remainder of the minutes with winger Zito Andre tormenting the defenders in the left side of the Tanzania defense line.
At full time it was total frenzy in the Angola camp as they finished second in Group A and made it to the world cup for the very first time.
Nigeria and Uganda shared the spoils in the other group game,Nigeria qualify for the semi final and world cup as group winners in Group A.
