19-year-old potential Indomitable Lions defender William Saliba joint Arsenal last summer from French Ligue 1 Saint-Etienne, but spent last season on loan with the French club. He is now reported to be on his way back to Arsenal as the current French Ligue 1 season has been brought to an end due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Though Saliba is allowed to go back to England, he will not play a competitive game for the Gunners till the start of the 2020-2021 season.
The Gunners secured the services of the French youth international for £11million on a five-year contract.
His turbulent loan period with Saint-Etienne ended prematurely, with 10 games left to the end of the season due to concerns over the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
According to reports from RMC Sports, the native of Bondy, France, will join up with his Arsenal teammates, though the UK is under lockdown, allowing only essential travels.
While the Dutch, Belgians and French have ended their seasons prematurely, the English, Italians and Spaniards are still looking for ways to complete their respective domestic seasons.
However, Saliba will not be allowed to play in any of Arsenal’s remaining 9 league games.
The central defender had a very difficult season with Saint-Etienne, managing just 11 starts in 12 Ligue 1 appearances in an injury marred season.
He was sidelined for 16 games due to injury, first a hamstring then a metatarsal injury.
He finished the season on a high as Saint-Etienne kept themselves out of the relegation zone and the defender regained full fitness and had consistent playtime.
