Egypt 2019 is beckoning, the African stars are trying to stake a claim for a place in their respective teams. These are the stars from Africa who were on the spotlight over the weekend in Europe and the rest of the world.
In the English Championship, that is the second tier of English football, Nottingham Forest secured a precious home win against Swansea City, 2-1, thanks to an 87th minute winner from their Malian international defender Molla Wague. Wague joint the 1979 and 1980 European Champions on loan from Italian side Udinese.
Reading beat Preston North End 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium thanks to two first half strikes from their African stars. 23years old Ivorian forward Yakou Méïté scored their first and his eighth of the season at the 30th minute before Gambian international winger Modou Barrow grabbed their second six minutes later. It was the former Swansea man’s fourth of the campaign. The win leaves Reading FC on the 19th position with 42 points on the log.
It was a disappointing weekend for coach Roberto D’Aversa and Parma as they slumped to a 1-3 defeat at their Ennio Tardini Stadium. It however began well for them when their 31 years old Ivorian striker Gervinho put them ahead at the 8th minute. It was the evergreen Ivorians 10th goal in 23 matches for them this season in the Serie A. Unfortunately for them the wheels feel off. This defeat leaves them at the 13th position on the table.
Another Ivorian was on the score sheet and also ended up on the losing side in another Serie A game. Bologna welcomed Sassuolo and took the lead before much traveled Ivorian midfielder Jérémie Boga made it 1-1 at the 89th minute. Unfortunately for them, Bologna’s Mattia Destro still conjured a late winner.
Villarreal are going through a very complicated season with European glory beckoning in the Europa League but struggling for a stay in La Liga at the end of the season. They threw away a two goals lead away to Celta Vigo. Cameroon striker Karl Toko Ekambi was on target at the 11th minute for the opener and his seventh league goal of the campaign.
Atletico Madrid have put their disappointing champions league elimination behind them. They comfortably thrashed Deportivo Alaves 0-4 away from home. The icing on the cake was produced by 25years old Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Teye Partey scored their fourth at the 84th minute. It was the Krobo Odumase native’s third of the campaign. He has also been credited with three assists this season from his defensive midfielder position.
RassenBallsport Leipzig made light work of Hertha Berlin with a 5-0 demolition. Their 21 years Malian midfielder Amadou Haidara scored their fifth at the 64th minute.
In the German Bundesliga2, FC Union Berlin lost at home to visitors SC Paderborn 07. Ghanaian Christopher Antwi-Adjei got Paderborn’s opener at the 41st minute. It was the 25 years old’s fifth goal in 24 games this season.
In the French Ligue 2, 34 years old Algerian Raid Nouri scored at the 60th minute to earn a 1-1 draw for his team AC Ajaccio against Chateauroux. The Algerian has now been involved in nine goals scoring 5 and assisting in four.
FC Sochaux recorded a much needed away win against Niort thanks to a third goal of the season from their Algerian midfielder Sofiane Daham. The game finished 0-1.
FC Troyes defeated Grenoble by 2-1 at home to keep their hopes alive for a place in the promotion playoff places. Their 19years old Franco-Cameroonian striker still eligible to play for Cameroon, Bryan Mbeumo got their first at the 40th minute. It was his seventh in twenty-nine games.
Paris FC are seriously challenging for a place in the French top flight. They saw off Auxerre 3-0 at home thanks to a brace from the 25years old Ivorian striker Thomas Touré on loan from Angers. He got the first at the 15th minute before converting a 74th minute penalty. Congolese striker Silas Wamangituka Fundu completed the scoring at the 84th minute. The Kinshasa born 19years old striker has now found the back of the net eight times in a very promising season.
Born in Remchi, Algeria on June 23, 1993, Oussama Abdeldjelil saved Red Stars from defeat with a brace against Orleans in a 2-2 draw. It was the Algerian forwards third and fourth goals this season.
FC Metz have established a comfortable eight points gap at the top of the French second tier, thanks to the goal scoring prowess of their 23years old Senegalese striker Habib Diallo. His 30th minute penalty against Lorient was his 20th in 29games this season. Metz won the game 2-1 thanks to a second of the season strike from their French born Ivorian-Algerian striker Marvin Gakpa.
In the Dutch second tier, It all looked poised for a draw between NEC Nijmegen and Jong Ajax until 18 years old Burkinabé striker Lassina Chamste Soudine Franck Traoré grabbed an 89th minute winner for Jong Ajax in a 1-2 win. He has now scored four goals and assisted in two.
NAC Breda drew at home 1–1 with VVV-Venlo. Venlo’s 28years old Togolese born striker Peniel Kokou Mlapa put them ahead at the 14th minute. It was the Lomé born striker’s 11th goal of the campaign. He has also provided two assists.
Standard Liege defeated Royal Antwerp 3-1 in a championship playoff game in Belgium. Malian forward Moussa Djenepo got Standard’s first at the 71st minute. The 20 years old has been in fine form. It was his eighth goal of the campaign. Royal Antwerp’s consolation was scored by the DRC striker Dieumerci Mbokani at the 25th minute.
Genk humbled Anderlecht 3-0, 21 years old Ghanaian international midfielder Joseph Paintsil got the third and his third of the campaign at the 79th minute.
Claude Makelele’s Eupen defeated Oostende at home 1-2. Eupen’s on loan 28 years old Tunisian winger from Al-Duhail got their first at the 14th minute.
Kortrijk secured a 3-1 home win against Royal Excel Mouscron. Royal Excel’s consolation was scored by Cameroon midfielder Franck Boya at the 73rd minute. The 1,90m, 22 years old APEJES of Mfou Cameroon cup winning captain is having a great season.
Union St-Gilloise made their home advantage count with a 3-1 win against Cercle Brugge. Their Comoros winger Faïs Selemani got their first before their in-form Malian striker 26 years old Youssoufou Niakaté got his 12th and 13th goals of the season in the Belgian second tier at the 45th and 82nd minutes respectively.
Rio Ave lost 0-2 at home to CD Aves. Aves’ second was scored at the 83rd minute by their Guinea-Bissau right winger Mama Samba Baldé. The 23 years old on loan from Sporting Lisbon has now scored 7 goals and provided one assist this season.
Cameroon international striker Joel Tagueu got his fifth goal of the season with a 16th minute penalty in his side Maritimo’s 3-2 win against Nacional.
In Day 31 matches in the Scottish Premiership, Hearts of Midlothian earned a much needed 2-1 win against Aberdeen who are just above them on the log. Hearts’ 24 years old Nigerian forward Karl Anthony Uchechukwu Mabiru Ikpeazu grabbed their second at the 77th minute.
Hamilton Academical were on the end of 5-0 hammering from Kilmarnock. DRC captain Youssuf Mulumbu got Kilmarnock’s third at the 63rd minute. Mulumbu’s potential teammate for the Leopards of the DRC 20 years old Mikael Bolingi Ndjoli got the fifth at the 90th minute.
On match Day 27 of the Danish top flight, league leaders FC Copenhagen defeated Esbjerg FB 1-0 with the lone strike coming from their 17 years old Sierra Leonean-Danish forward Mohammed Daramy.
There was an entertaining 3-3 draw between Vendyssel FF and Hobro. 24 years old Sierra Leone striker Al-Hadji Kamara scored the second for Vendsyssel at the 53rd minute.
Rapid Wien did not need to dig deep to see off Admira Moedling 3-0. 21 years old Senegalese forward Aliou Badji got Rapid’s third at the 80th minute.
In the Austrian second tier, Kapfenberger SV were humiliated at home by FC Liefering 0-3. Liefering’s 19years old centre defender of Guinean origin Abdourahmane Barry got their second at the 58th minute before their 17 years old Kano born Nigerian forward Junior Chikwubuike Adamu rounded up the scoring at the 70th minute.
Start lost at home against Aalesund 0-1 thanks to an 87th minute winner from 19 years old Senegalese forward Pape Habib Gueye.
Nigerian striker Samuel Onyedikachukwu Nnamani scored his 12th goal of the season by netting AFC Eskilstuna’s second at the 51st minute in the league leaders 3-1 win over IFK Gothenburg.
There was an extra time win in a cup game in Finland for IFK Mariehann against Lahti. 24 years old Congolese striker Aristote Mboma scored Mariehannn’s second at the 101st minute in that 3-1 win.
Young Boys of Bernes defeated FC ST Gallen 1879 by 3-2. ST Gallen’s 21 years old Ivorian winger Axel Bakayoko had given them a 32nd minute lead.
In the Swiss lower league, Servette defeated Winterthur by 5-2. Ivorian Koro Issa Ahmed Koné was on target for Servette’s third at the 70th minute. There was a 6th minute opener for Winterthur from 26 years old fellow Ivorian striker Ousmane Doumbia.
An 86th minute strike from Ghana’s Charles Kwateng was enough to earn all three points for Ergotelis away to Panaclisiki 1891 FC.
Ernis Aradippou lost at home 0-4 to Doxa Katakopias FC. Ghanaian midfielder Benjamin Akoto Asamoah opened the scoring for the visitors.
Gambia’s Ebrahim Ibou Sawaneh got a consolation for Union Titus Petange in their 4-1 loss to US Mondorf Les Bain.
Senegalese forward Moussa Seydi converted a 40th minute penalty in CS Fola Esch’s 3-0 win over Racing FC Union Luxembourg.

Gabonese midfielder Guelor Kanga Kaku scored a 73rd minute penalty for Sparta Prague, but Mlada Boleslav managed a goal more to take all three points.
Ghanaian striker Richmond Yiadom Boakye scored his 9th goal of the season when he put Red Star Belgrade ahead at the 37th minute against Fk Malva Sabac. Richmond’s strike partner El Fardou Mohammed Ben Nebouhane from the Comoros Islands converted a 75th minute to make sure of the points in a 2-1 home win.

Niger striker Tidjani Amadou Moutari Kalala leveled the scoring at the 71st minute for Mezokovesd SE who had gone behind against Budapest Honved. His team built momentum from that equalizer and scored two more to make it 3-1.
Third on the log Újpest traveled to face Paksi FC. They came back victorious with a 0-2 win. Their Ivorian striker Lacina Emerghara Traoré got their second from the spot at the 68th minute.
It was a happy day in the Belarusian top flight for Cameroon forward Yannick Ndjeng who got the opener for Neman Grodno in their 2-3 away win against Gomel. Ndjeng’s teammate and compatriot Junior Atemengue was unfortunately sent off at the end of the game for two yellow cards.
On loan Ghanaian striker Joel Fameyeh got the second goal for Dinamo Brest in their 1-2 away win at Torpedo Zhodino.
Cameroon striker and 2017 AFCON winner Robert Ndip Tambe bagged a brace for FC Sheriff Tiraspol in their 3-0 against Zimbru in Day 2 round of matches in the Moldovan top flight.
Gambian striker Alassana Jatta opened the scoring in a 2-0 win for Paide Linnameeskond against Talinna Kalev.
There was a 2-0 win for FC Stumbras against Suduva Marijampole. Stumbras’ Guinean striker Alseny Bah opened the scoring at 58th minute.
