Omidiran Babes’ dream of promoting to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship from the 2021 Nationwide League at the Ijebu Ode centre was dashed on Friday after a 3-2 defeat to Oasis Ladies FC.
“The early goals that we conceded in the first half caused us the defeat. We lost concentration. We need to plan for next season after our last game on Saturday. The major thing now is to prepare early enough for next season for us to be able to gain promotion.” Bashiru Liadi told www.kick442.com at Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
The former Osun Babes coach opined that his players can not do more than what they have in them but gave their best by scoring two goals after going down by 3-0 at halftime.
He said: “I am not disappointed because no matter how you motivate or push the girls, they can not do more than what they have in them. At halftime, the players wanted to start the blame game but I told them not to blame each other because everybody made mistakes. I admonished them to go out as 3-0 doesn’t mean a total defeat. If they can score three goals in the first half, nothing can stop us if we also wanted to score three goals in the second half. We were able to score two goals back in the second half. I will say it was a good game.
“The problem is that from day one, I have not seen many of them play before we got to Ijebu Ode. I discovered that some of them can not tap and control the ball hence I have been playing the same squad since the first game. I will still retain the squad for our final game with one or two substitutes.”
Omidiran Babes and FC Phoenix Queens will not promote to the NWFL Championship after failing to win any of their five games at the round-robin stage of the league.
