In a bit to resolve the financial battle between the Ghana Football Association and former coach James Kwesi Appiah, the Sports Minister of Ghana has insisted that the government is doing everything possible to settle all the debts they owe to the coach after the expiration of his contract and Kwesi Appiah himself is loved by all Ghanaians.
Reacting to this great news from the Sports Minister, the Spokesperson for the coach Asante Fokuo has told Takoradi based radio station ROK FM of their pleasure but questioned the time for the payment.
“It’s such a great news to hear from the minister regarding the payment. The money is due him (Kwesi Appiah) because he worked for it. My problem is that the minister didn’t tell us the specific time in which the said payment will be made. He should have given us a time frame so that we can base on that if there are any more delays. It is not that the coach is in dire need of the money but it is money due him based on the terms in the contract between the two factions.”
The former Black stars of Ghana coach in May 2020 told the BBC that the GFA owed him five months salary from August to December 2019 and other unpaid winning bonus which summed up to $185,000.
The coach was on a monthly salary of $35,000 and with this latest development, we believe the beef between the two factions will be solved amicably. Who knows Coach Kwesi Appiah the first Ghanaian coach to take the nation to her third FIFA World Cup in 2014 might one day come back to take charge of the national team.
