The group A matches of the WAFU zone A women’s tournament were played on Tuesday as the tournament commenced in Sierra Leone.

Host nation Sierra Leone played Cape Verde in the first group game while Senegal traded tackles with Guinea later that day.

At the end of ninety minutes, no goal came out of the match between host nation, Sierra Leone and Cape Verde.

While in the second game, Senegal got a slim win over the Guinean female team after ninety minutes.

An 18-minutes goal by Ndieye Diakhate was all the Taranga lionesses of Senegal needed to get victory.

The win puts Senegal top in group A while Cape Verde and Sierra Leone are placed second and third respectively as Guinea occupy the last position.

There will be matches today in group B which has Mali, Liberia, Guinea Bissau and Gambia.

Mali will play Gambia in the group B opener while the second match in the group will see Liberia go head to head against Guinea Bissau later in the day.
