The Copper Queens of Zambia records its first win of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco with a slim 1-0 triumph over Tunisia.
The cagey affair didn’t record any goal in the first half and was poised to end in a barren draw just like the Copper Queens’ first game with the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
When it seemed that the tie will end in a draw, the efforts of the Zambians paid off in the dine moments of the game.
A very late winner by Avell Chitundu in the additional minutes of the second half from a well-taken set-piece which was not well defended by Tunisia resulted in the winning goal.
Immediately after the resumption of play, Zambia almost double its lead as a lack of communication between Tunisia goalkeeper, Jabrani Soulaima and her defenders gifted Grace Chanda with a one-on-one chance but she couldn’t convert the chance after going past the goalkeeper.
Zambia with the result move to the top of Group B with four (4) points, ahead of Cameroon’s game with Togo.
Zambia will end its group stage campaign with a clash against Togo while Tunisia will face Cameroon.
