Sunshine Queens of Akure, Ondo State, narrowly missed out of Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL Super four qualification in the course of 2018-2019 season. The club’s attacker, Wachukwu Oluchi Janice in an exclusive interview with kick442.com spoke on her experience with the Akure based side last season and what she intends to achieve with the team come next season.
“My target with Sunshine Queens was to win the league last season or at least get a medal but unfortunately it didn’t go as planned but I still thank God despite everything.”
The former Beautiful Tours Angels FC and Adamawa Queens forward asserted that Group A won’t be an easy group for the team but they can qualify for Super 4 with a good start against Confluence Queens in their first league game.
“I won’t say easy or hard. In the game of football now, no team is a pushover but we will do our best to come out victorious. We will try to beat Confluence Queens in our opening game because we have very good dedicated and hardworking players and with God on our side, nothing is impossible. We will take each game as they come. A step at a time. Only time will tell as we intend winning the league and Aiteo Cup.” She told kick442.com.
Leagues and sporting activities across the world has been halted due to CoronaVirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Janice also spoke on the current situation of things.
“I will say I support the league postponement, since the pandemic is all over the world and remember when one is alive he or she can still achieve that which he/she desires. Health is wealth.”
Wachukwu Oluchi Janice concluded by praising the efforts of Aisha Falode led Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Board and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their inputs.
“I will, first of all, say Kudos to the organizers of the league, the NWFL board, the NFF, and every individual that made the league a beautiful one not only last season but previous seasons as well. May God bless you all. My advice is for them to keep supporting and bringing out the best in the league.”
Wachukwu Oluchi Janice and Sunshine Queens will square up with the likes of Pelican Stars FC, Nasarawa Amazons FC, Bayelsa Queens FC, Abia Angels FC, Confluence Queens FC, Dream Stars FC, and Edo Queens FC in Group A.
