Vipers Sports Club goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha is always a man of few words, rarely does he share his opinion unless pressed so hard like it was the case in this interview.
The ex-Cranes and SC Villa goalkeeper who joined Vipers in January along with head coach Fred Kajoba, says the experience at the four-time league champions has been worthwhile with the club making good strides forward.
“Vipers as a club is a good institution, we have a good mentality and most of all have big ambitions, therefore, it’s a plus for me being here,” Mugisha told Football256.
“Am also happy about winning the title in a short period it shows the winner in me like I was as a player and now as a coach,” he added.
The soft-spoken, laid back former goalkeeping coach at APR and the Rwanda national team knows what comes with claiming territory, in this case, the league, which means Vipers will have another go at reaching the CAF Champions League group stages a mission Mugisha is focused on accomplishing.
“We have a good squad and my hope is that we reach the group stages on the continent, we want to join KCCA FC in achieving that feat,” he added.
With the rumour mill making rounds that first-choice goalkeeper Fabian Mutombora could be on his way out, Mugisha was coy on the matter and stated he is happy with his goalkeepers.
“I can’t reveal anything in my department but am sure if anything comes up you’ll learn about it. That said, am comfortable with all the goalkeepers. They’re all good and only need enough playing time.”
“Fabian has a running contract and he is soon coming back, that’s what I know,” he added.
Mugisha played for SC Villa, KCCA but it’s his time at URA FC that stands out keeping goal for six seasons before calling it quits and venturing into coaching goalkeepers.
