20-year-old Volleyball Lionesses of Cameroon spiker Victoire Nama Atangana has cleared the air on her absence from the national team in the last four international competitions.
The franco-Cameroonian announced her intention to join the Lionesses mid last year bearly weeks before the African Women’s Volleyball Championship in Egypt.
Unfortunately she didn’t turn up for the event and hasn’t been seen in the Den since then prompting the media to raise many unanswered questions about her absence. Those speculations were burried on Saturday when Nama revealed the reasons for her absence in an exclusive interview with the Communications director of the Cameroon volleyball federation, Junior Nteppe.
Speaking from Sao paulo Brazil where she has been held back by the global travels restrictions, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, UTRGV Volleyball team Spiker revealed the reasons behind her unavoidable absence from the national team.
“Well I am doing well, I am presently in Brazil. I had a great season with my club and had to return back to the US unfortunately, the global travelling restrictions provoked by the CoronaVirus pandemic stopped me from travelling.
It is a good time for me,it is somehow better than it could be in France or the USA”:Nama Atangana stated.
She then went further to discuss her absence from the Lionesses den.
“Well I have really missed being with the rest of the Cameroon team. I had an agreement with my school which stopped me from being involved with the national team at the time. I discussed this with the coach [Jean Rene Akono] , he understood the situation and so stayed back in school.
“I will soon round up with the program, once that is done I will be available for our national team whenever the coach wants me”:Nama concluded.
Nama Atangana is in the last season of her four year contract with UTRGV and hopes to return to the Lionesses den and take her country to the Olympic games in future.
“Looking at my objectives the national team is a key part of it and I have a dream to help my nation qualify for the Olympic games in future and why not get a lucrative contract from a club in Europe.
The US-based spiker opted for Cameroon over France but is still to make her debut for the current African champions.
