43-year-old Vlatko Andonovski has been appointed as the successor of Women’s World Cup winning coach Gil Ellis, at the helm of the United States Women’s football national team.

Gil Ellis stepped down from the position after she successfully led the team to retain their World Cup title in France.

Andonovski has been a coach in the National Women’s Soccer League in the US for the past seven years. The former Kansas City and Reign FC Manager has expressed his delight and appreciation to be handed the job.

Its a huge honour and I’m very excited to get started with this group of players and staff as we work towards continued success of this programmer,” he said after the appointment.

“All of the talented coaches and players that have come before have built a legendary of excellence and I am committed to working very hard to continue to move this program forward.”

Andonovski’s first game in charge will be on November 7, 2019 against Sweden.
