Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL side, Nasarawa United has retired the jersey number of their late player, Chineme Martins, can report.

This was confirmed in a press release by Nasarawa United Media Officer, Eche Amos on Monday.

“As a mark of respect to fallen hero, 23- year-old Chineme Martins, the management of Nasarawa United Football Club, Lafia, has retired the jersey number 20 won by the defender before his demise.” The statement read.

According to the Club Chairman, Barr. Isaac Danladi, he said “As a mark of respect to our departed colleague and player, Chineme Martins, who died in the course of meritorious service to the club, management has decided to rest his jersey number ’20’ for the whole of the 2020/2021 League Season.

“May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace.”

The late Chineme Martins who has since been buried in his home town in Abia State, died on his way to the hospital after slumping in the field when his team, Nasarawa United, was involved in a league game against Katsina United FC on Matchday 23 on Sunday, 8th March, 2020, at the Lafia City Stadium.
