There will be no Republic of Chad at the 2020 Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC) one week Under-20 tournament expected to kick-off on December 15 in Malabo.
According to a recent release from the communications unit of the tournament, the Chadian football has notified organizers of the event they cannot make it to Equatorial Guinea.
Per our findings, the Chadian national selection cannot travel abroad because of a misunderstanding between the federation and a government minister.
As a consequence, the number of participants in the competition drops to five, leaving Pool A with two nations being host Equatorial Guinea and the Central Africa Republic.
Therefore the opening day encounter pitting Chad against Equatorial Guinea has been called off.
Cameroon versus DR Congo on Wednesday will serve as the tournament opener at the Estadio Nacional de Malabo.
The winners of each of the two groups will face each other in the final.
Christophe Ousmanou’s Cameroon team arrived Guinea on Monday evening.
The winner of the competition will represent UNIFFAC in next year’s Under-20 AFCON tournament in Mauritania.
