Coach Anicet Mbarga Foe’s boys have picked up a three-nil victory against local third tier side TAD Academy of Yaounde this afternoon at the CAF Excellence center in Mbankomo-Cameroon.
The Lions reacted to their goalless draw last time out with a more impressive display thanks to attacking trio Nongoh Samuel, Taling Fouodjoum and Soppo Jemea.
In a 4-2-4 formation Halilou and mates started the game on the front foot moving the ball around with relative ease and daring to open the the TAD Academy backline unsuccessfully on two occasions in the opening 15 minutes of the afternoon.
Taling Fouodjoum had the first real chance of the encounter in the 25th minute when a fine cross from the flank found him unmarked in the penalty area. Unfortunately the chance was taken largely thanks to a perfect defensive recovery.
Four minutes later, the Lions came back with a more incisive move orchestrated by Nongoh Samuel whose cross to Soppo Jemea was cleared untidily and he pounced on the loss ball to give the Lions a deserved lead.
The goal unsettled the TAD Sport Academy backline and a minute later the roaring Lions came back for more.
Cameroon won a penalty which was calmly converted by Taling to make it two-nil.
With two goals scored, Dang Said and Tamba stabilized the midfield while captain Halilou and his defensive colleagues including Zabo Bello protected the two goal advantage till the break.
TAD Sport Academy returned for the second segment looking more daring.
The Lions were nearly made to pay in the 49th minute when a fine effort on target left goalkeeper Tetteh Evans planted on the spot but couldn’t beat the upright which repelled the ball.
The effort was a wake up call for the Lions who reinforced in the midfield especially with the introduction of Balepa and Noh Nafeng Yvan.
Cameroon took control of the game from then creating a litterny of goal scoring opportunities but the ball won’t find the back of the net with ease.
The Lions missed two sitters, hit the woodwork twice before Jemea Likanjo Soppo concluded activities of the day with the third goal for the Lions.
At full-time it was another emphatic win without conceding for the Cameroon team that has scored 17 goals without conceding in five matches under coach Anicet Mbarga Foe.
Reacting to questions at full-time; “we are satisfied with the performance and results,” the gaffer told the media.
The Under-17 Lions will hold a single training session on Tuesday at the Omnisport Annex 2 stadium in Yaounde before leaving for home to end the 12-day second training camp in anticipation of the 2021 UNIFFAC tournament on a date and venue to be announced.
