Francis Joel Tombi Alemi and Jean Emmanuel Tchandjou starred for UMS with a goal and an assist each to help Dieudonne Nke’s team cruise to a 0-3 victory over struggling Union of Douala in match-day 10 of Cameroon’s Elite One.

Defending champions UMS needed this victory badly to get their season back on the rails, as they have now moved up to third on the table with 15 points while Union have slipped to 12th with 13 points

UMS took the lead at the 16th minute when when Jean Emmanuel Tchandjou’s corner was missed by Stephane Ouguene and fell kindly to central defender Bertin Ngeumaleu who bundled home for UMS.

Union had a few timid attempts to draw tally in the first half, firstly at the 27th minute when Innocent Assana set up Aboubakari Siddiki, but his shot went wide. Their second attempt came at the 42nd minute when Jean Francois Bikoi went past Eric Joel Ntieche but his shot was crucially blocked by the experienced Nguemaleu.

Their final chance in the first half came at the stroke of half time, when Jean Francois Bikoi’s cross into the box was brought down with a cushion header by Francis Baliang but the ball failed to find Joe Rufin Tchokote.

In the second half, UMS took just 12 minutes into the half to double their advantage. Tombi Alemi showed pace and trickery to go past Serge Andoulou and played in an inch perfect cross which Jean Emmanuel Tchandjou connected with neatly with a fine header for UMS’ second.

Union’s coach Daniel Walinjom reacted by bringing in their talisman Samuel Nlend and Williams Boum Kouame for Tchokote and Baliang respectively.

Union looked an improved side but UMS kept to their game plan of containing and counterattacking.

At the 77th minute, they put the game out of Union’s reach with a third when Tchandjou outplayed Union’s right-back Cedric Sighe and played in a low ball into the box, Brice Owona intelligently stepped over as the ball fell to Tombi Alemi, his well taken shot left Union’s Serge Diguel with no chance as UMS made it three.

Union tried in vain to reduce tally firstly through substitute Ayissi Abega and twice through Innocent Assana but UMS’ goalkeeper Noah Ombolo produced some top saves to keep his net virgin till the end of the contest.
