English Premier League Champions Liverpool FC have traveled to Amsterdam for their opening fixture of the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League group stage without 29-year-old Cameroonian defender Joel Djob Matip.
The squad released on the Club’s website this Tuesday is without the former Schalke 04 defender who has been on the news in the past 24hours as some section of the media hold that he may have picked up a knock against Everton last weekend in the English Premier League game against Everton FC.
Though reports from his medical examinations on Monday confirmed the player was fit, he has been left in England.
Liverpool will certainly rely on Joe Gomez and Fabinho to manage defensive role against a tricky opponent.
According to English media, coach Jurgen Klopp will only have the player in the weekend when the reds face Sheffield United FC.
Liverpool will also be without sweeper Van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson Becker when they challenge Andre Onana’s Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday.
Matip has had all sorts of troubles with injuries in his career. The 22-capped Cameroonian defender has suffered not less than 18 injuries in his career.
