Spanish Segunda Division side, UD Almeria have issued a statement ordering the Club forward, Umar Sadiq from honouring Super Eagles of Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho.
The Club in an official statement on Friday says “Due to the pandemic crisis that we are experiencing, due to the sars-cov-2 virus (Covid-19) and thoroughly evaluating the impacts, we believe that the sanitary, security or bureaucratic conditions are not met so that our player Sadiq Umar presents himself to the call-up of the Nigerian National team.
“Therefore, based on article 3.1b of Annex 1 of FIFA RSTP, we have notified the player not to appear at the aforementioned call.” The statement concluded.
Umar Sadiq who was invited by the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr for the two games has scored 14 goals with two assists for UD Almeria in 26 league games this season. He has also scored two goals in the Spanish Copa Del Ray.
Paul Onuachu (KRC Genk) and Henry Onyekuru (Galatasaray) replaced Samuel Kalu (Bordeaux) after confirmation of the absence the French based player from Nigeria’s next games.
Gernot Rohr is expected to name a replacement for Umar Sadiq in the coming days with this recent development as more players are expected to miss out of the games due to COVID-19 conditions in Europe.
Daniel Akpeyi, Moffi, Olise, Peter Olayinka, and Adeleke are on the coach standby list to replace any players that opt-out of the next games.
