Nigerian duo of Frank Onyeka and Peter Olayinka scored for FC Midtjylland and Slavia Prague respectively in the UEFA Champions League Playoffs second leg on Wednesday, www.kick442.com can report.
FC Midtjylland defeated Slavia Prague 4-1 after a crazy end to an exciting match ensuring that the former qualify for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever.
The first meeting in Prague had ended 0-0, so it all had to be decided at the MCH Arena. The battle was led by the world’s best referee, Damir Skomina from Slovenia.
The match was just two minutes old when Slavia Prague took the lead. Peter Olayinka did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position scored the first goal of the game. The chance came after a corner kick, which was not cleared properly.
The score was 0-1 at the break. Not much changed, however, at the beginning of the second half.
However, Sory Kaba equalised for the host when a perfect post from Awer Mabil hit the forehead of Sory Kaba. The header struck past the forward-rushing goalkeeper and directly into the goal.
FC Midtjylland had to manage with a reduced squad after 78 minutes, as Slavia Prague got sent off for a needless foul away from the game’s action. The referee points to the spot and whistles for a penalty for FC Midtjylland.
Sory Kaba takes the penalty kick, but the finish on the right is parried. However, the VAR carriage reports to the referee 30 seconds later that the kick must be taken again. After great Czech protests and minutes of waiting, it is now Alexander Scholz who is ready to kick.
The defender is icy cold and scores to make it 2-1 with a kick on the left side. Five minutes after the penalty was awarded, the score is 2-1 to FC Midtjylland.
Slavia Prague was now forced into an attack, but that just meant plenty of room at the other end. After 88 minutes, Frank Onyeka sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. Actually, he decided the match, but it was not over yet.
Anders Dreyer kicked the ball on the crossbar three minutes later but was even over the rebound, which he knocked into the net to make it 4-1.
The result ensured that FC Midtjylland is in the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in history.
