The U21 volleyball selection of Cameroon has begun their 2021 Men’s U21 African Nations Championship on the best possible note with a 3-1 victory against Morocco.
Played at the Cairo Stadium Hall in Egypt on Saturday, Cameroon defeated Morocco 25-20, 23-25, 25-17 and 26-24 to win their first game of the tournament.
The victory margin showed that it was a highly contested affair with Cameroon winning the first set by a margin of five. Morocco then powered in the second set, outsmarting Cameroon 25-23 in another closely fought set.
In the third set, Cameroon showed their dominance defeating Morocco 25-17, a margin of 8. The team then wrapped up the victory in the fourth set beating Morocco 26-24, in another closely fought set.
After the match, Cameroon’s Head Coach Litouang Albert was not satisfied with the performance the boys showed against Morocco. “I am not completely satisfied with the result, we hope to win by three straight sets,” He said.
“Our performance faded after winning the first set, and this allowed Morocco to win a set and come back to the match. Our goal is clear and it is winning the competition and qualifying for the world championship,” Coach Litouang Albert added.
In the other game, host Egypt overcame RD Congo to pick up their first win of the competition. Egypt won RD Congo 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, and 25-11).
After having a break on Sunday the team will be in action on Monday, February 22. RD Congo faces Morocco at 17:00 (Egypt time) and Egypt will face Cameroon in the second encounter at 22:00 (Egypt time).
