On 14th February, 2021, the age grade competition of the African Cup of Nations kick started in Mauritania and it has been exciting.
No Nigeria (7-time champions), no Egypt (4-time champions), no defending Champions Mali, not to worry because the matches in the group stages have come good.
39 goals so far with 7 penalties laden with sumptuous 7 free kicks, great headers and mouth-watering goals. Africa has future.
There are 14 wins, 6 draws in 18 matches.
Etienne Eto’o of Cameroon, Derrick Kakooza of Uganda, Junior Sunday Jang of Cameroon who scored the first goal of the tournament, Silly Sanghare of Mauritania, Steven Sserwadda of Uganda, Percious Boah and El Moubarik of Morocco all have two goals in three matches they have played. Talk about future stars!
Meanwhile, a player stands out so far. He is Chiheb Labidi of Tunisia with a goal and an assist. The midfield marshal has received the man of the match award twice in the tournament for his great play against Burkinafaso and against Namibia. Your tournament’s MVP?
Besides, only Cameroon has managed to clinch all 9 points in the group stage. Lion stuff!
While Morocco are the only team yet to concede a goal in this edition of the U-20 AFCON. All hail the Atlas one Lions.
It is obviously just the beginning as the quarter finals glitters and beams with huge expectations of fireworks, great displays and goals.
The games resume tomorrow with Ghana hoping their stars shine amongst the Lions of Cameroon. Morocco’s Lions will seek to devour the Eagles of Tunisia as Gambia go head to head with Central Africa Republic. The Stallions of Burkinafaso will have a date with the hippos of Uganda.
