Prelude to the 16th edition of U-20 African Cup of Nations to be played in Mauritania 2021, the Confederation of African Football CAF, has shortlisted some referees and assistant referees from the African continent to officiate the games.
Cameroon’s Ngwa Blaise Yuven is the lone referee shortlisted to officiate games as a centre referee. He will be joined by Rodrigue Menye Mpele as an assistant from Cameroon.
The list comprises of 17 referees. 16 male and a lone female Makalima Akhona Zennith from South Africa.
18 Assistant referees have been shortlisted. 16 male and two female particularly Chedad Mariem from Mauritania and Adia Cisse from Senegal.
Having experience in Cameroon leagues, coupled with his knowledge from sports and physical education school INJS, Ngwa Blaise will undoubtably make a good referee for the tournament
U-20 AFCON Tournament is a biennial international youth football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players aged 20 and below. In September 2018, it was decided that the tournament would be hosted by Mauritania.
This year’s edition will run 14 February to 4th March 2021 and this will be the first edition in Africa U-20 Cup of Nations to have expanded to 12 teams instead of eight. The top four teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia as the CAF representatives.
The 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will be the 16th edition of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (23nd edition if tournaments without hosts are included).
