The Junior Lions of Cameroon’s chances of winning this year’s Under 20 AFCON ongoing in Mauritania will have to go through the Black Satellites of Ghana. Cameroon will Thursday, February 25 (6 pm Cameroon time) battle Ghana in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Cameroon heads into the competition knowing a victory against Ghana is what the fans crave. The team have been excellent in the competition and against Ghana, the team will hope that their strikers are firing on all cylinders.
Etienne Eto’o scored a brace, while Keven-prince Milla, Yahaya were all on target as Cameroon dispatched Mozambique 4-1. That victory ensured that Cameroon finished top of Group A with a perfect record (3 games played, three wins). Cameroon is the only team in the group stage to have won all three matches.
For Ghana, the team is coming off from a defeat to the Gambia at the last group stage game. Abdul Fatawu had to give Ghana the lead against the Gambia at the 9mins. Gambia then powered back to equalize through Kajally Drammeh at the 16mins. They took the lead at the 33mins through Lamarana Jallow and sealed all three points from Ebou Camara at the 83mins.
The defeat placed Ghana at the third position in Group C and qualified as one of the best losers. Their date with team Cameroon is an exciting one with both sides aiming for the title.
The performances of Etienne Eto’o, Kevin-prince Milla, have shown that Cameroon has quality from the bench as both players were not used in the opening two games.
Jang Sunday and Nchindo John Bosco produced the goods for the team in the opening games. Jang Sunday has scored two goals for the Junior Lions, 1 each against Mauritania and Uganda.
The question now is what formation and players will Coach Ousmanou Christophe put out against Ghana? That is something the Cameroonian public will only find out on Thursday. Both analysts say it is possible Coach Christophe uses both Jang Sunday and Etienne Eto’o upfront.
