Speedster Alain Thierry Akono Akono and his club Azam FC have now recorded successive victories in the Mainland Tanzania Vodacom premier league.

Though Akono is yet to get into the act of scoring or making goals after two match days, Club president Abdulkarim Amin has kept faith in the former AS Fortuna forward. The latter voiced his admiration for Cameroonian footballers on the mic of

‘We need good players on and off the pitch,’ Abdulkarim stated. ‘Kingue Mpondo (former Azam player from Cameroon) was here for years and showed us that Cameroonian footballers are good on and off the pitch.’

‘Also, when we scouted Akono we saw that he had good skills and a good age aswell, Cameroon players have a good mentality and that’s what we want’ ended the Club’s chief.

It is a perfect home record for 24-year-old Thierry Akono and his Club who defeated Coastal Union 2-0 on match day two of the Tanzanian premiership though Akono was out of the team.

A brace from Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube was enough to hand Azam three points, that has them lurking around the top of the table while waiting on other games in hand from Clubs around them.

Azam FC are looking for their second Tanzania premier League title since they ascended to the big time over a decade ago.

Next up for Akono and teammates is a journey to bottom of the pile Mbeya City on Sunday 20, as the Azam look to dethrone Simba SC.
