The Tunisia football Association has terminated their contract with the national football team’s head coach Alain Giresse on mutual consent, appointing Maher Kanzari as interim coach to take charge of the team in the next International break.
The decision comes after an unsatisfactory 2019 AFCON performance by the Carthage Eagles who finished 4th in Egypt.
Despite the result being their best AFCON result in over a decade, the former Gabon, Senegal and Mali head coach who has managed in over 4 countries in Africa has not been given a chance to see out the 2 year contract signed in December 2018 to run till 30th June 2021.
Interim coach Maher Kanzari who worked with Giresse will take charge of Tunisia when they face Mauritania and Ivory in their upcoming assignments in the September International break.
The 67 year old former France International made his first stop in Africa 18 years ago but is still hunting his first Title as a national team coach on the continent.
Giresse becomes the 13th coach from the batch of 24 at the 2019 AFCON who has left their AFCON 2019 role.
