Liverpool have secured a backup for their Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
They have captured the services of Spanish goalkeeper Adrián San Miguel del Castillo known simply as Adrián.
The 32 year old goalkeeper joins Liverpool as a free agent after his contract with West Ham expired this summer.
He is the club’s third signing this summer and will be replacing Simon Mignolet who has ended a six year stay at the club after joining them from Sunderland to return to Belgium where he has signed for Club Brugge.
Though Adrián is expected to be a natural number two goalkeeper he has not hidden his ambition to push for a first choice spot.
“I’m very ambitious, I come here to try to win everything, to try to push Alisson from the first minute and to make us better,” he told Liverpool’s website.
“Obviously I want to win titles. I come here to fight for all the competitions.”
The goalkeeper made 125 appearances for West Ham and kept 35 clean sheets since joining them from Real Betis in 2013.
Joel Matip and Liverpool will face Norwich on Friday at Anfield for their opening fixture of the new Premier League season.
