Despite being linked to Sheffield United by reports ,Senegal’s AFCON 2019 goalkeeper Edouard Osoque Mendy, 27 has concluded a move to Stade Rennais, on a four year contract.
The vice-African champion in the 2019 AFCON joint Reims in the 2016-2017 season while they were still playing in the French second tier.
Mendy joined Reims in 2016 as a totally unknown goalkeeper after leaving Cherbourg in the French fifth tier to join Marseille’s B team in 2014 where he made just eight appearances in two years.
He helped them gain promotion by finishing top of the French Dominos Ligue 2 with an outstanding 18 clean sheets.
In the Ligue last season, Edouard Mendy kept 14 clean sheets for Reims and was nominated for the UNFP Awards as one of the top five goalkeepers in the French top flight.
“After negotiations with Stade Rennais for several weeks now,the Britannia capital will be the goal keeper’s next stop after 84 appearances for the red and black. Stade de Reims thanks Edouard Mendy for his contributions in his three seasons with them and wishes him all the best with his new team,” Reims announced on the club’s website.
Mendy kept 32 clean sheets in the 84 games he played for Reims.
Édouard Mendy has six international caps for the Teranga Lions of Senegal all accumulated at the 2019 AFCON Egypt.
