The management of Tiko Council in the South West region has set-up a massive fan zone ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022.
Several activities will be carried out at the fan zone including the broadcast of live AFCON 2021 games on giant screen expected to be mounted in the days ahead.
According to the Mayor of Tiko Council, Chief Mesoso Peter, stands will also be built at the site where drinks and food stuffs will be sold to spectators who will be expected to turnout in their number to follow games at the fan zone.
Petit traders and other vendors will equally be allowed to carry out small businesses in the area to help increase the level of entertainment and relaxation during the tournament.
“It’s the gateway municipality preparing for the AFCON. We believe that our population can have the impact of this AFCON from this direction.
Some of those who may not be opportune to be at the Limbe Stadium, they is going to be a giant screen. The population of Tiko are going to watch their own matches here. It is not for Tiko Council. It is for the Tiko population, it is for the Tiko municipality.” Chief Mesoso Peter partly said to the Limbe Council radio late last week.
“We have different stands here. Stands for people who will be roasting fish, those who will roast Soya, those who will be cooking food, selling drinks, dresses and other products. It will be like a cultural festival.” He stated while also reiterating that the fan zone will be operational on daily basis throughout the Pan African football jamboree.

The Tiko fan base will increase the number of fan zones in the South West region to three after those expected in Limbe and Buea still in the Fako Division of the South West region.
Tiko which is the gateway into the South West region, the zone hosting Pool F of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, is one of the areas highly involved in the organization of the forthcoming tournament.
The town will host two of the health centers officially selected for the South West region pool during the upcoming competition including the Tiko District Hospital and CDC Cottage Hospital Tiko.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations takes place from January 9 to February 6, 2022 with 24 nations competing across five major cities in Cameroon to become champions of Africa with Limbe to host Tunisia, Mali, Gambia and Mauritania at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium.
The first game in the pool will pit Tunisia and Mali on January 12, 2022.
