48-year old Belgian tactician Tom Saintfiet, National trainer for the Gambia Senior Football National team on December 10, released a 40-man provisional squad, to begin preparations for their first ever participation in the TotalErnegies African Cup of Nations stage for January 9th in Cameroon.
Among the 40- man team, is the emblematic and polyvalent French league One side Saint Etienne’s midfielder Mahdi Camara.
The 23 year old French-born of Gambia descent is considered by many in France to be the revelation of the Gambian football. Mahdi had been an international player for some French youth selections, notably the Under 16 and 19 categories respectively.
Lodged in Group F of the 33rd edition of the African soccer mass, along Tunisia, Mauritania and Mali. Head Coach Tom Saintfiet and boys, participating in the Afcon for their first time, are poised on putting up an impressive and remarkable show out, as they officially kick-off their preparations in the days ahead.
