Ethiopia senior men’s national football team have overpowered Sudan 3-2 in an international friendly ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Ethiopians who are currently based in Yaounde in preparations for the forthcoming football festival, humbled the North African heavyweights at the Annex 1 of the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Thursday December 30, 2021.
The East Africans took charge of the game early on with 22-year-old Saint George SC forward, Amanuel Gebremichel getting the first goal for the Ethiopians to get the scores at 1 all for both sides in the first ten minutes of the game.

The youngster, Amanuel Gebremichel gave the Ethiopians the lead at the 37th minute after putting scores at 2-1 for the East Africans at half time.
The team increased tallies to 3-1 through team Captain and midfielder Shimelese Bikele 5 minutes upon return from break before Sudan reduced scores to 3-2 minutes to the end of regular time on a bright Thursday evening in Yaounde.
The win is expected to help boost the morale of the Ethiopians as the 1962 AFCON winners who became the first country to jet into Cameroon upon their arrival last Sunday, look forward to facing the Stallions of Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands and host Cameroon at the Yaounde Olembe Stadium in Group A of the forthcoming AFCON early next month.

The defeat however comes to mount more pressure on the Sudanese team and its technical bench led by Coach Burhan Tia, Thursday’s defeat coming as 4th consecutive loss for the North Africans and 8th winless game in all competitions for the 1970 Africa Cup of Nations champions.

The Sudanese who recently lost all three group games in the 2021 FIFA Arab World Cup in Qatar, will be competing in Group D of the 2021 AFCON alongside record seven time holders, Egypt, three time winners the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Guinea Bissau at the Roumde Adja Stadium in Garoua.
