The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has made public a list of 40 match officials selected from 24 different countries for the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Amongst the 40 match officials selected is Cameroonian assistant referee, Carine Atezambong Fomo.
Carine Atezambong Fomo made history during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon alongside Rwandan Salima Mukangsanga and Moroccan Bouchkra Karboubi.
The list is made up of 16 referees, 16 assistant referees, and 8 Video Assistant Referees (VAR).
Salima Mukangsanga from Rwanda who was recently selected as the only women referee from Africa for the FIFA World cup Qatar 2022 is among the selected referees.
In a statement issued by CAF Director of Refereeing, Eddy Maillet, “Africa has made serious leaps in the development of the women match officials. This list comprises of the best in the continent and it took us a long time to get here”, he said.
The 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be played between July 2 to July 23 2022 in the Moroccan cities of Rabat and Casablanca.
The opening match will see the host, Morocco, and debutants Burkina Faso square off.
