A historic Group E opener of the 33rd African Cup of Nations for Sierra Leone, holding AFCON giants Algeria on balance scale thanks to the superb saves and clean sheet kept by goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara.
The Algerians were prevented from scoring though they extended their unbeaten run to 35 games.
However, lead trainer of The Desert Foxes of Algerian, coach Djamel Belmadi in a post match conference appreciated Sierra Leone’s courage which awakened his players.
“The Leone Stars were so courageous and that is what gave us the strength to continue playing right to the end.”
With different climatic conditions in Cameroon at the moment, coach Djamel Belmadi revealed that the heat in Douala affected the performance of some of his players plying their trade in Europe.
“I can say that the weather condition was not favourable for our players. It had an impact especially to those players who have been playing in Europe.”
Algeria played a virgin tie against Sierra Leone, an unexpected result and performance from defending AFCON giants.
Quizzed about his team’s performance,

Team Algeria is looking forward to facing The National Thunder of Equatorial Guinea and the Elephants of Ivory Coast in subsequent group stage clash.
