The prize money for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament has been increased by the Confederation of African Football, CAF.
The competition’s take home pay home package has been increased from the former 3.9 Million Euros as bagged home by Algeria at the end of the 2019 tournament in Egypt, to 4.4 Million Euros, that is over 2.8 Billion FCFA, per Kick442.Com findings.
The change will see an increase of five hundred thousand Euro, more than 326MFCFA when compared to the previous sum bagged home by the competition’s passed winners.
The prize change which will be expected to get applicable during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon is expected to affect the pay package awarded to the competition’s second and third placed teams and other top teams that will qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition.
The winner of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt bagged home 3.9 Million Euro while the runners up, Senegal returned home with the sum of 2.2 Million Euro while Nigeria and Tunisia which both reached the semifinal stage, pocketed home the sum of 1.7 Million Euro.
Meanwhile, all the team’s that reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in Egypt each bagged home the sum of over eight hundred thousand Euro.
This is not the first time the competition’s pay package of the Africa Cup of Nations is being increased. The prize money of the competition has been evolving since the creation of the competition by the Confederation of African Football-CAF over 65 years ago.
These, depending on the specificities and uniqueness of the various editions and the expansions experienced by the event the Pan African soccer jamboree having launched in a four-nation format to its present 24-nation competition since the 32nd edition staged in Egypt in 2019.
