Cameroon’s representatives at the ongoing football festival go into the record books as the only host of the tournament to play in all stadiums earmarked for a single edition of a CAF organized event. After playing two group A games in Yaoundé Omnisports stadium and finished second, the lions moved to take on the Leopards of the DRC whom they eliminated at the quarter-final stages in the Newly constructed 60 thousand seater Japoma stadium in Douala. The boys of coach Ntoungou Mpile didn’t just end there, they had to face the tournament hot favorites Morocco during the semis at the 20 thousand seater stadium in Limbe and got humiliated 4 nil in what pundits have described as an easy ride for the Moroccans.
The intermediate lions will today play against Guinea in the classification match to determine who finishes 3rd on the podium at the reunification stadium in Douala.
Reaching the semi’s meant overriding books makers predictions at the start of the tournament, and a 3rd spot finish of the CHAN 2020 will not be considered a failure but remarkable progress due to the lack of domestic championship as a result of the global Covid-19 scare and internal wranglings between the Football Association (FA) and LFPC governing bodies.
