Namibia CHAN team lost their CHAN 2020 opener 3-0 to Guinea which the Namibian team coach, Bobby Samaria is not happy about.
The match what took place at Stade Omnisports, Limbe, Cameroon saw the Namibian side produce very little going forward and also porous at the back.
At the press conference after the match, Bobby expressed his disappointed with his team’s play
“Individual errors led to our first goal. We tried to change the game in the second half but our efforts was futile. I give kudos to my opponent. All is not lost for us. We keep on fighting ahead of our next game.”
“The scoreline is not the true reflection of the game. Two of the goals were individual errors. We made two silly mistakes that got us punished. There were moments in the game that we played well. We need to correct our mistakes and remain positive about good results in our next games.”
When asked if the absence of the league was responsible for the poor first outing, he said:
“Absence of Namibia league is not an excuse. It’s a factor but not an excuse. We played preparatory games and COVID-19 effects on our players also had impacts. Nevertheless our opponents played well. We need to take the lesson learnt ahead of our next game. Anything is still possible in this group. The result of the second match will give us more picture about who will progress.”
Namibia will take on Tanzania in their next game on Friday at the Stade Omnisport, Limbe. Tanzania also lost their first match to Zambia 2-0 and a win for either side will give them a qualification chance for next round.
