Guinea on Tuesday defeated the Namibian national team 3-0 in their opening Group D match at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) which took place at Stade Omnisports, Limbe, Cameroon.
After a 2-0 win by Zambia over Tanzania in the other group game, Guinea knew that they have to win to keep up with Zambia’s pace and didn’t disappoint.
The game which was highly dominated by Guinea produced the opening goal in the 13th minute when Yakhouba Barry slotted pass Edward Maova.
The Namibian side could not produce a much-attacking threat to Guinea defence line as well as goalkeeper, Camara Moussa in the first half until Marcell Papama’s shot from the edge of the box almost wrong foot the Guinean goalkeeper.
Camara Moussa easily recovered and held on to the ball.
Namibia tried to equalise when Aprocius Megameno Petrus’ cross was punched for a corner by Camara Moussa. From the resulting corner, Guinea launched a counterattack that ended with Morlaye Sylla scoring the second goal of the match for Guinea in the additional minutes of the first half (45+2′).
In the second half, Guinea continued to control the game.
Ambrosius Amseb was fouled by his opposite number (10) Morlaye Sylla in the 52nd minute at the edge of the box.
Sylla was booked by the referee for his troubles.
The resulting free-kick by Ambrosius Amseb produced an acrobatic save from Guinea goalkeeper, Camara Moussa.
Yakhouba Barry scored Guinea’s third goal and his second of the game in the 86th minute to put the game beyond Namibia.
Guinea thus matched Zambia result and are top of Group D table with three points and three goals alongside Zambia.
