Solomon Charles Banga Bidjeme was on target again for the intermediate Lions of Cameroon in their second group A match against the eagles of Mali. His 5th minute goal wasn’t enough to secure all three points for Cameroon as Issaka Samake dispatched an incredible free kick at the 11th minute to level scores for Mali.
KEY MOMENTS
Man Ykre Dangmo recorded the first shot of the match and for Cameroon when his shot from outside the 18metres box went off target.
The intermediate Lions of Cameroon then took control of the midfield and at 5th minute of the match, Anthony Kevin Mfede Junior won a free kick and from the resulting cross which he executed, Solomon Charles Banga Bidjeme II was well placed to head the ball pass goalkeeper Djigui Diarra to give Cameroon the lead and scoring his second goal of the competition.
Six minutes later, the eagles of Mali won a free kick few metres from the Cameroon 18 metres area. Their playmaker, Issaka Samake stepped up to beat goalkeeper Haschou Kerrido to level the scores of the match.
The goal gave Mali confidence as they took control of the midfield and dominated possession of the ball.
At the 19th minute of play, Alfred Meyong recorded another shot for Cameroon but it went off target.
Two minutes later, Moussa Kone almost gave Mali the lead but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Haschou Kerrido.
The poor performance of Karl Junior Ndedi Kegne forced coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile to effect the first substitution of the match at the 24th minute, bringing in Pierre Francois Etame Ngombe to the applause of the thousands of fans.
The rest of the first half unfolded without any meaningful opportunity to score for both sides.
SECOND HALF
In the second half, Mali continued their domination at the midfield with Moussa Ballo coming close to scoring at the 50th minute but his shot was saved by Haschou Kerrido.
Thierry Tchuente then had the first meaningful attacking opportunity for Cameroon but his shot went off target.
At the 62nd minute of the match, coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile effected his second substitution of the match with Bertrand Mani coming in for Ako Assomo.
Both teams will in quick succession have chances of scoring with Cameroon hitting the cross bar and Haschou Kerrido saving a shot.
Mfede Junior came close to giving Cameroon the lead at the 67th minute but his shot hit the side netting.
Coach Moussa Birama Kanoute at the 73rd minute brought in Makan Samabali in place of Ibourahima Sidibe and Martin Ndtoungou Mpile four minutes later brought in Fabrice Onana in place of Mfede Junior.
All efforts from both sides to grab a winner proved futile as the match ended on a one all tie.
