The indomitable Lionesses will today March 29 face the U-17 selection of Apejes of Mfou. The game that will be played at the Annex Stadium (5 pm) serves as an evaluation exercise for Coach Alain Djeumfa with Cameroon to face Chile for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The country will contest a two-legged intercontinental playoff against Chile, who finished second in CONMEBOL’s qualifying tournament, in Antalya, Turkey on 10 and 13 April 2021. The showdown between the African and South American sides had been rescheduled thrice but is now billed to take place in April.
Cameroon entered this fixture as runners-up from the African zone following their 4-4 away goals rule defeat against Zambia while South America’s vice Champions Chile have been waiting for this fixture since they emerged runners-up in their continental tournament.
The indomitable lionesses are out in search of a return ticket to the Olympics games for the first time since their London 2012 only involvement while Chile is in search of a debut entry ticket.
It should be recalled that ahead of next month’s meeting, coach Djeumfa invited 25 home-based players for a camp and marked the country’s fifth preparation camp exercise.
In the 25-player list, four goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards were named for the camp in Yaounde. Tokyo University’s Djuka Chanelle, Charlene Meyong, who recently joined Chinese side Meizhou, Eclair Filles De Sa’a’s Alexander Takounda, and Ebolowa FC’s Edjangue Siliki are amongst the players called up.
According to the Cameroon Football Federation, the named players resumed camp on March 17 in Yaounde, and the final preparation will be concluded on April 5.
