The Super Falcons on Tuesday crossed the Algerian hurdle in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifier after beating Algeria women 1-0 at the Agege National stadium.

A second half goal from Barcelona Femeni forward, Asisat Oshoala gave the Nigerian team the win.

A star studded Falcons side saw the return of Francisca Ordega, Rashidat Ajibada and Asisat Oshaola to ensure the win.

The game from the blast of the whistle seemed like it was going to be the Falcon’s day however a decent Algerian side didn’t go down after a fight.

The Algerians looked sharper towards the end of the first half but couldn’t do much with their dominance.

A good keeping and a resolute defense kept the match goalless at half time.

Asisat Oshaola however came through in the second half (59 minutes) with a good run to put the ball behind the goalkeeper.

Fransisca Ordega came close a couple of times to score but was denied by the Algerian goalkeeper.

The first leg of the game had ended 2-0 in favour of the Falcons in Algeria.

Hence, the 1-0 win puts the aggregate at 3-0 in favour of the Nigerian Super Falcons.

The Super Falcons are through to the third round of the 2020 Olympic qualifier.

They will face either Mali or Cote d’Ivoire in the next round later in September.
