Second tournament favourites and African giants Kenya have taken off in ‘airways’ fashion in the Women’s Volleyball Olympic qualifier after their win in the opener against 2019 Women’s African Volleyball championship hosts-Egypt.
The girls of coach Paul Bitok were slow and not up to steam in the first set as they were stunned by Egypt via a scoreline of 23 – 25. The nine time African women’s volleyball Champions however rallied three sets in a row after that disappointing first set to win the game 3 – 1: 25 – 15, 25 – 21 and 25 – 22 in their favour to kickstart the tourney in Yaounde-Cameroon in some style.
Keeping in mind that just a single ticket is available for Tokyo, the 2019 All – Africa Games gold medalist Kenya know there’s no room for error especially as hosts volleyball Lionesses themselves look poised to represent the continent for the second consecutive time in the Olympics.
Kenya has participated twice in the Olympic games but the last time they did so was 16 years ago when they did it back-to-back in 2000 and 2004.
The next huddle for Kenya is Botswana on January 6th.
