Cameroon International, Karl Toko Ekambi has been named as one of Olympique of Lyonnais’ vice captain.
The Indomitable Lion striker will assist Alexandre Lacazette who will be the team’s first captain, alongside Tolisso Corentin and Goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.
This announcement was made by Peter Bosz during a Press Conference on Wednesday, August 3rd.
Ekambi earned this position as a result of his hardwork at the club and efforts he puts in every Matchday to ensure victory.
“I’ve worked with Karl for over a year and he’s a leader in the locker room. To be one of my captains is important. I’m not going to give all the reasons but on the pitch he is a leader too” said the gaffer.
The Cameroonian registered 16 goals and seven Assists in 38 games played for Lyon last season.
Lyon will host Ajaccio in match day one of the French Ligue 1 game on Friday, August 5th,2022.
After emerging second highest goal scorer of the 2021 African Cup of Nations, Karl Toko Ekambi was the brain behind Cameroon picking up a Ticket to Qatar for the World Cup later this year.
He scored a last minute shocker in Blida against Algeria to ensure Cameroon be one of Africa’s Representatives at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He finished the AFCON tournament with five goals, three goals away from team Captain Vincent Aboubakar who picked up the golden boot as highest goal scorer.
His efforts throughout the tournament at home could only help his side to a third place finish.
